Research Associate Position - Telecom Bretagne
Research Associate Position in Computer Science at Telecom Bretagne
Duration : from now until 31/12/2017
Starting date : immediately
Location : Telecom Bretagne, Brest, France
Telecom Bretagne is currently seeking a research associate for a 36-month European project : the ITEA 3 Project : MOOCTAB (Massive Open Online Course TABlet). Founded in 1977,Telecom Bretagne is one of the most prestigious graduate engineering schools ("[Grandes Ecoles"]->http://www.telecom-bretagne.eu/stud...]) in France. It is a public institution, under the aegis of the Ministry for Industry and is a member of the Institut Mines-Telecom and the Université européenne de Bretagne (European University of Brittany). The college trains future professionals for careers in industry, services and research.
About the Lab
Telecom Bretagne has opened a new CNRS laboratory called Labsticc, Information and Communication Science and Technology Laboratory, in partnership with UBO and UBS.
There are 280 people working at LabSTICC, including 130 research lecturers and 110 PhD students. It unites three poles working within one central theme : “From sensors to knowledge ». The three poles are as follows : i) MOM : micro-waves and materials ; ii) CAC : communications, architecture and circuits ; iii) CID : knowledge, information, decision.
The laboratory, under the title UMR 3192, is attached to department ST2I of the CNRS (section 08 and 07).The IHSEV team embodies the end of the continuum “From sensors to knowledge" articulating his research on the concept of interaction between humans and artificial systems. The MOOCtab Project is a project of the IHSEVTeam.
About the MOOCTAB Project
MOOCTAB aims at creating a tablet based platform dedicated to the lifelong learning (primary, secondary, higher, and continuous) with following characteristics :
- A cloud based European MOOC on Demand platform with a Plug&Play approach deployable in Europe and developing countries will be based on an existing MOOCs platform like EDX ;
- Data will be stored on a local secured cloud (usage of European Cloud servers, main European provider) ;
- MOOC will be used through tablets with an intuitive interface and a secured connection ;
- A consortium consisting of major European actors in the whole value chain has been created. Some partners which are specialized in content creation and publication will have a consulting role to define needs.
The IHSEV work will focus on analytics, social and collaborative tool perspectives. It will focus on five main innovations and the corresponding tools : 1) integration of Social media tools to MOOCs as platforms ; 2) new pedagogical and assessment approaches, like inquiry-based learning and better connection possibilities to support collaborative knowledge building in MOOCs and e-books available online ; 3) efficient information retrieval mechanism to deal with MOOCs issues, interoperability issue and online content access based on semantic web, ontologies, social ontologies and semantic metadata to describe online content and produced content from distributed social media ; 4) information filtering and recommendations by managing stakeholders’ context and adaptation policy ; 5) Learning analytics tests and tools will be implemented.
To manage and build user communities, several tools will be designed : Whiteboards to provide an interactive and shared screen from tablet to another. Allows drawing with infinite zoom in/out, and chat functions. Dashboards to provide overviews about the learning process such as indicators, content aggregation and clustering for navigation and recommendations, activity streams.
