The project is between the Software Engineering group at the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, and the Brain and Mind Research Institute. The Software Engineering Group develops software applications to support health, mental health and psychological wellbeing. This project is funded by Beyondblue to support men’s mental health in the workplace. The postdoc will collaborate with staff in the group and with partners at BMRI, Beyondblue, Blackdog Institute, Fire NSW, Police NSW and others.

We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to develop and evaluate a mobile app for detecting people at risk of mental illness.
In this role you will:
- assist in further development of Internet based mental health interventions, based on findings and outcomes in the literature and other projects
- assist in the design, development, and evaluation of an app for the deployment of mental health interventions
- take the lead in the design, development, and evaluation of a machine learning techniques to analyse self-report questionnaires and behaviour. Other developers and UX will provide support
- take the lead in the writing up of reports, peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers/presentations
- assist in obtaining ethics clearance for the qualitative and quantitative phases of the research and evaluation
- undertake systematic literature reviews and appraise human-computer interaction, mobile and positive computing research
- liaise with the various stakeholders on the project informing them of project progress and that the research is directly related to end user needs.
To secure this role you must have:
- a PhD in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- excellent quantitative research skills
- experience in the design and development of internet applications and NLP systems
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- strong software development skills, particularly in Java, Javascript and mobile platforms
- ability to work well as part of a team
- ability to meet tight work deadlines
- strong publication record (desirable)
